the parts you have to say word for word
most of a podcast is conversation, and a script would kill it. but some lines must be exact: the cold open, the sponsor read with its promo code, the legal line, the outro with the right links. keep those in a markdown file and read them off the phone, then put it down and talk.
video podcasts, solo episodes
on a video podcast your eyes are on camera. mount the phone right under the lens, or under a beam-splitter glass so the words sit in front of it, and the read looks like talking. mounting the phone in front of the lens. solo, scripted episodes work the same way at full length: open prompter follows your voice and scrolls as you speak.
hands on the desk, not on the phone
a Bluetooth clicker, page-turner or foot pedal can drive the prompter. map any key to play, pause, mark, next or reset, so you start the ad read without reaching into the shot. remote setup in five minutes.
mark the retakes
if you record video in open prompter, tap MARK when a line goes wrong and keep going. the marker is in the file when you edit, so you find the fix without scrubbing.
what it does not do
it is not a podcast recorder. if your audio runs through a mixer or a separate recorder, use open prompter as the display and record the way you already do. it has no guest or remote-interview features, and it runs on iPhone and iPad only.
