open prompter v2: record through the script

v2 turns the teleprompter into the camera. you record front-camera video while you read, and the take saves right back next to the script it came from. no second device, no screen-record hack, no AirDrop dance afterward.

here's everything that shipped.

the camera lives inside the app#

a picture-in-picture tile floats over the script while you read. tap it to promote to a full-screen preview when you want to check your framing. tap minimize to collapse it back. it's the front camera, and you can turn it off entirely if you'd rather just read.

that last part matters. most teleprompters jam the camera feed behind your text, which is exactly where a wall of moving words is most distracting. open prompter lets you choose: a small tile near the lens, or nothing at all.

open gate on iphone 17#

on iphone 17 the front sensor is square. open gate records the whole thing, 3840 by 3840. you perform the script once, then crop a 9:16, a 1:1, and a 16:9 out of the same take in your editor. one read, every platform. no reshoot.

older iphones record at the maximum frame their sensor exposes. the square re-crop trick is an iphone 17 thing specifically.

the take saves back to your script folder#

flip on "save next to the script" in Settings. now when you stop recording, the .mov writes to the same folder as the .md you were reading. iCloud delivers it to your mac sitting right next to the script. no Photos library hunt, no "where did i put that file."

if a collaborator shared the script folder with you, the finished take just shows up back in that folder for them too.

voice tracking, beta#

on-device speech recognition advances the page when you actually say the words. no thumb on the screen, no guessing at a scroll speed. and nothing leaves the phone, because the recognition runs locally.

it's driven by two draggable lines. the READ line is where the word you just said lands. the FEATHER line is where the scroll eases from catch-up into a glide. drag them together for tight word-for-word tracking, apart for smoother momentum.

mirror, both axes#

horizontal and vertical, independently. horizontal is the standard beam-splitter flip. vertical covers periscope rigs and upside-down mounts. set one, the other, or both.

bluetooth remote#

pair any keyboard or media remote and bind the buttons you use: play, pause, mirror, jump back to the start of the take. volume-button capture is opt-in, so your volume rocker stays a volume rocker unless you say otherwise.

still the same deal#

no account. no subscription. no analytics. no tracking. no network calls of any kind. every line of it is MIT on GitHub. v2 added a camera and a recorder and kept all of that intact.

open prompter is free, MIT, and on the App Store.

the whole feature set. no subscription, no account, no cloud upload.
